Paprika and copper reds work oh-so well during spring/summer, when warm, golden complexions are a’ plenty. However, the fakers out there will find that red colour fades faster than any other shade, so a colour protection hair regime is essential throughout the sunnier months.

Nordic-style blondes are back with a bang this season – think platinum, pearl, ash and champagne. Remember, super-pale shades are better suited to ivory or soft pink tinged complexions and blue or grey eyes

Alternatively, you could warm up your super-pale shade with the oh-so now technique of clever, interwoven streaks of warm, golden blonde – the perfect way to bring your pearly hue bang up to date.

The spirit of punk lives on, but with a couture twist and a 2009 update. Incorporating pastel, candyfloss pink lengths with bubblegum pink streaks through the fringe should appeal to the arty, nouveau punk in you.

We might be moving away from winter, but that’s no reason not to embrace your deepest, darkest brunette. Despite brown hair having great shine potential, there’s a tendency to mousy tones, dullness and one-dimensional flatness, so amp up your current brown with rich, dark chocolaty shades for maximum shine and a more wow-inducing finish.

Just like in fashion circles, black is always the new black. Just look to style icons like Katy Perry and Vanessa Hudgens for inspiration. Although it works best in contrast with ivory or black skins, and can be one of the trickiest hair colours to carry off if you’re not a natural, considering 60% of UK women are natural brunettes, it’s worth spicing up your current hue with bold sections of blue-black for maximum impact.

Bring spring/summer's love affair with coral to your locks as well as your make-up palette, with this deliciously pretty and wow-inducing shade of candy pink-coral

We just can’t get enough of lengthy red curls – was there ever a style and shade more suited to sunny spring days? This delicious palette of strawberry, ruby and copper is a real cheeky, statement colour.

Amp up dark hair with a few, peekaboo strands of silver violet through the fringe to give your shade instant edge.

The acceptable face of anarchy! Pastel, pearly blondes were a major story for last summer thanks to the emergence of cool, new, festival icons such as Alphabeat’s Stine Bramsen – and the shade looks set to stay around this season, but with a sunnier twist for 2009.

A hedonistic blend of rich mulberry and plum, fused with deepest, darkest brunette and high shine gives a finish that is a little rebellious and totally on-trend.
